ABOUT

Stop the Abuse: Connect to Prevent is Canada’s leading conference, providing professionals across all sectors the newest knowledge on domestic violence prevention.

Domestic violence is defined as any form of physical, sexual, emotional or psychological abuse, including financial control, stalking and harassment. It occurs between opposite- or same-sex intimate partners, who may or may not be married, common law or living together.

It can also continue after a relationship has ended.

Our mission is to draw down the walls of ignorance, reveal the shadows of fear and to expel all shame using education, because we know that domestic violence effects all genders, ethnicities, social status and age.

-A Message from WHO

All funds raised support Moving Forward's Next Step Program.

Every 6 days a woman in Canada is killed by her intimate partner. Women sometimes stay in abusive relationships because they are financially dependent on their partner. The Next Step’s interest-free microloans gives women experiencing domestic violence the freedom and confidence to say, “ENOUGH!”

The Next Step provides individuals, primarily women and their children experiencing domestic violence with a Hand Up not a handout. In partnership with 34 agencies across the Greater Toronto Area, the Next Step lifts women and their children out of domestic violence, into safe homes through our microfinancing program.

We provide more than financial security, we build resilience in women and children. Introducing them to training programs, employment opportunities, counselling services and other means required to live a budding life. We are breaking the cycle of violence against women. We are saving a life.
